Finding the edge of two aggressive terrains ensures both prospect and refuge. Pruning this edge to meet our specific needs alone, optimizing safety and control, is reminiscent of ancient garden hedges and stone walls used to enforce ownership. This series takes a literal approach of finding refuge by “encasing” the figures in a dwelling of earth built for one.
Exhibited at University of Waterloo Art Gallery.
